Assistant Professor - Painting & Drawing (Finance)

The School of Art at The University of Houston invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor position in the area of Painting & Drawing.

We seek a candidate with an innovative painting practice and a strong understanding of the traditions and history of painting and drawing. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the materials and techniques of painting and be deeply engaged with current theoretical and aesthetic discussions in contemporary art. Applicants should have a demonstrated commitment to teaching with an approach that blends skill-building with conceptual development informed by art theory. The successful applicant will have a research profile showing the potential to make a significant contribution to their field, leading to a nationally recognized career.

The anticipated start date for the position is Fall 2026. This position requires relocation to Houston, TX.

The School of Art is NASAD accredited with BFA, BA, and MFA degrees. The school is situated in the Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts, the culturally rich and innovative home of the visual and performing arts at the University of Houston, which is in the thriving and dynamic arts city of Houston. Responsibilities
Responsibilities include teaching a 2/3 load that may include foundation, intermediate and advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in painting and drawing, including studio courses for majors in the candidate's area of expertise; developing curriculum; mentoring students; maintaining an ongoing record of creative practice; sharing responsibility for all aspects of the Painting program; and serving on committees at the School, College, and University levels.

Qualifications
Candidates must have an MFA and college-level teaching experience beyond graduate school.
