Compliance Technician

General Information:

Title: Compliance Technician           

Status: Full-time, Non-exempt                                     

Location/Site: Midland, Texas

Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, some weekends and nights

Pay: Bi-Weekly

Reports to: West Texas Compliance Supervisor                                                             

Supervisory Responsibility: None

Position Overview:
The Compliance Sample Technician is responsible for the accurate collection, preservation, and delivery of potable water and wastewater samples for regulatory and quality control testing. This role combines on-site field sampling at drilling, completion, frac, locations with preliminary testing, proper documentation, and secure transport of samples to WaterFleet's in-house or approved third-party laboratories. The technician ensures all sampling activities meet established protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements, while maintaining accurate records and effective communication with both internal teams and customers. This position also requires the safe operation and upkeep of company vehicles, calibration and maintenance of testing equipment, and active participation in WaterFleet's compliance and quality assurance and control initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Foster teamwork, collaboration, and effective communication within and across departments.
  • Maintain strict control and preservation of water and wastewater samples prior to testing by WaterFleet's in-house laboratory or an approved third-party laboratory.
  • Accurately prepare, complete, and sign/date Chain of Custody (COC) forms for delivery to designated laboratories.
  • Operate and maintain company vehicles in accordance with policy, ensuring proper care, cleanliness, and professional appearance.
  • Perform assigned site sampling and field-testing activities within budgeted timeframes, documenting and reporting any delays or discrepancies.
  • Serve as a liaison between customers and WaterFleet's internal operations to ensure customer expectations are understood and met.
  • Participate in company and departmental status meetings, when requested, to review schedules and provide updates on assigned tasks.
  • Fully comply with all oil and gas drilling, completion, and frac site access requirements, including customer health and safety (H&S) training, proper use of PPE, and completion of required documentation.
  • Follow established protocols and safety procedures for sample collection at oil and gas drilling, completion, and frac sites.
  • Ensure the integrity of all samples during handling, transport, and delivery to the testing laboratory.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED required, associate degree or higher preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with a safe driving history (no more than two moving violations within the past three years).
  • Acceptable background check with no DWI convictions in the past five years.

Qualifications:

  • Strong driving skills and ability to operate company vehicles safely and professionally.
  • Physically able to access WaterFleet treatment rigs and navigate varied site conditions, including confined spaces, elevated platforms, and uneven terrain.
  • Proficient in basic computer applications, including MS Word, MS Excel, and data entry into laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for both technical documentation and customer interaction.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize workloads, and manage time effectively under field conditions.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and sound judgment in resolving issues related to sample collection, testing equipment, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with colleagues, supervisors, regulatory agencies, and customers.
  • Skilled in performing basic and intermediate mathematical calculations relevant to water quality analysis and equipment calibration.
  • Ability to respond effectively to customer inquiries and concerns with professionalism and technical accuracy.
  • Familiarity with EPA, TCEQ, RRC and other applicable regulatory sampling protocols and quality control procedures preferred.
  • Willingness to seek guidance when necessary to ensure proper performance of duties in alignment with WaterFleet's compliance and quality assurance initiatives
