OPEN RANK - Academic Division Chief, Gastroenterology - Clinical Educator or Physician Scientist (Finance)



The Morsani College of Medicine (MCOM) of the University of South Florida (USF) is conducting a national search for a distinguished academic clinical leader in gastroenterology to serve as the Division Chief & Director, Digestive Diseases & Nutrition within the Department of Internal Medicine.
The Division of Digestive Diseases and Nutrition encompasses all subspecialities of gastroenterology. Our passionate faculty have been recognized in USN&WR rankings for 9 consecutive years and in 2023 were ranked #15 in the nation for state-of-the-art patient care.

As Division Chief, the successful candidate will have accountability for the coordination of operations and outcomes of all clinical activities of Digestive Diseases & Nutrition faculty and staff located at USF and TGH locations. The Division Chief will be expected to bring improvement to clinical operations, especially patient access and referring physician satisfaction. There must be a deep commitment to quality and safety in patient care as well as a focus on contribution to value-based care through facilitating hospital throughput and cancer screenings. The Division Chief will also be a co-leader of the TGH GI & GI Surgery Service Line, and thus it is paramount that the selected candidate partner with TGH administrative leadership to continue enhancing the national reputation of services provided at TGH and to expand the breadth and depth of top-rated gastroenterology services at TGH and its sites.

The Division Chief will also be expected to contribute to the Division's journey to a stronger academic culture, by launching a clinical research portfolio, expanding pursuit and availability of clinical trials, and engaging each faculty member in scholarly work. Our Division Chiefs in all Divisions have academic responsibility for mentorship of faculty who primarily practice at affiliate sites such as the VA and Moffitt; this includes inclusion in research and publications, mentorship for promotion and tenure, and feedback and leadership in fellowship educational outputs. Lastly, the Chief will need to bring strong support for enhancing a fellowship program to be competitive with top national training programs; and the integration of discovery and innovation with clinical practice.Medical degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. For Associate/Full Professor - Normally will have produced creative work, professional writing or research in refereed and other professional journals, and be a recognized authority in the field of specialization.

Must hold or be eligible for a full, unrestricted Florida Medical License or foreign equivalent required. To perform this position, the candidate will need to obtain and maintain a full un-restricted FL Medical License, maintain credentials in the USF Health faculty practice plan, and be a medical staff member in good standing at the hospitals he/she is assigned to perform clinical duties. The candidate will participate in the teaching of residents, fellows, and medical students in clinical medicine. Must be board-certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.The University of South Florida is a high-impact global research university dedicated to student success.
