In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety, compliance, and efficiency of these operations while driving continuous improvement and building a strong technical foundation to support current production and future growth. As a key member of the site leadership team, you will collaborate closely with Quality, Operations, and Engineering to align technical strategies with business objectives, shape the site's technical culture, and play a vital role in talent development and innovation.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Ensure regulatory compliance and operational excellence through robust application of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), periodic product reviews, and process validation activities; serve as a key liaison with the Quality organization.

  • Lead, coach, and develop a technical team consisting of TSMS scientists, engineers, and a site statistician—creating a high-performance culture that encourages innovation, accountability, and career growth.

  • Champion safety and environmental stewardship by creating a zero-injury mindset within the team, ensuring safe laboratory and pilot plant operations, and actively participating in safety audits and hazard assessments.

  • Drive continuous process improvement and technical problem-solving by applying sound scientific and engineering principles, leveraging data analytics, and facilitating technical collaboration across the Elanco network and external industry experts.

What You Need to Succeed (minimum qualifications):

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Bioprocess), Chemistry, Microbiology, or a related scientific or technical discipline.

  • Required Experience: Minimum of 8–10 years of experience in pharmaceutical, animal health, or biotechnology manufacturing with progressive responsibility, including leadership roles in technical services, process engineering, or manufacturing science.

  • Top 2 skills: Deep understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and proven ability to lead and develop high-performing technical teams through complex problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration.

What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications):

  • Direct experience with any of the following manufacturing technologies: natural products fermentation, oral solid dosage forms, feed additive premixing, and/or primary/secondary packaging.

  • Experience managing or executing process validation, technology transfers, and process investigations in a regulated manufacturing environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to interface effectively with Quality Assurance, Engineering, Regulatory Affairs, and Supply Chain teams to influence business outcomes.

  • Strong network within the broader scientific and technical community and experience working in a matrixed, global technical organization.

  • Track record of mentoring and developing early-career technical talent to feed future leadership pipelines.

Additional Information:

  • Travel: Up to 10% annually, primarily domestic with occasional international engagements for technical collaboration or network support.

  • Work Environment: Primarily site-based in Clinton, Indiana, with some flexibility. Exposure to laboratory, pilot plant, and manufacturing environments is required.

  • Other Requirements: Must not be sensitive to animal health products such as tylosin, monensin, or narasin.

At Elanco we are dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive work environment. If you think you might be a good fit for a role but don't necessarily meet every requirement, we encourage you to apply. You may be the right candidate for this role or other roles!
