Quality Engineer I (Manufacturing)



Summary:

Perform professional quality engineering requirements involving the application of procedural requirements and control criteria in the development and administration of quality procedures and techniques to assure the products meet and exceed company/customer standards.  Provide support to the overall Quality Management System (QMS) in support of customer requirements, company goals and quality initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assess Customer requirements at receipt of order to ensure the system is set up properly so that all Quality requirements and flow-downs are achievable upon product build (Contract Review).
  • Perform investigations on non-conforming products or parts to ensure thorough root causes and corrective actions are taken to prevent recurrence.
  • Final review of manufacturing work instructions to ensure they contain the necessary details to facilitate proper execution of assemblies in mass production environments.
  • Participate in 8D Corrective Action/Preventative Action (CAPA) as assigned and additionally assist teams in utilizing tools to find true root causes and strong corrective actions.
  • Interface with Suppliers for quality/reliability issues as assigned.
  • Perform ISO 9001, 13485 and AS9100 internal audits.
  • Perform AS9102 First Article Reports IAW SAE Industry Guidelines.
  • Drive Continuous Improvements Projects.
  • Quality Performance Data Mining - Improve Yield & Reduce Defect Trends
  • Present product performance data to Customer, and Internal Support Personnel.

Job Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Experienced with Quality Engineering tools, i.e., Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Cause and Effect Analysis. 
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and drive data-informed decisions to improve yield and reduce defects
  • Ability to interact with all levels of management/personnel, team player and build rapport/credibility
  • Understanding of IPC-A-600/610/620 requirements.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, facilitation, listening, and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Experience/Education:

  • Degree, preferably in a technical discipline or High school Diploma or GED.
  • 3 years of quality engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with ISO 9001, AS9100, MIL-PRF-38534 and ISO 13485 is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Lean and six sigma methodologies preferred.
