Operator Trainee - Water Treatment (Finance)

For more than 25 years, Woodard & Curran has offered contract operations and management services for drinking water, municipal and industrial wastewater, groundwater remediation, and solid waste facilities nationwide. Currently we contract operate more than 50 facilities nationwide. Woodard & Curran draws on the experience of hundreds of certified operators across the country, backed by the knowledge and skills of hundreds more engineers, scientists, and regulatory experts, to quickly tackle the most challenging operational issues and keep treatment plants running efficiently and in full compliance.

Woodard & Curran is growing, and we are looking for qualified Operations Trainee in Orange, New Jersey! The Operations Trainee regularly participates in the daily operations and maintenance of the Water Treatment facility as directed by the Chief Operator. What would you be doing at Woodard & Curran?

  • Monitor water treatment plant processes and equipment both manually and via SCADA automation, making adjustments as necessary to control their operation.
  • Monitor groundwater extraction wells with inspections and daily sampling as required.
  • Perform water quality sampling, testing, and analysis and record results.
  • Customer Service and new meter installations.
  • Monitor and maintain the wastewater collection system.
  • Troubleshooting and perform repairs of plant equipment, including preventive maintenance duties.
  • Utilize software programs for maintenance work orders and maintaining all necessary records.
  • Perform general maintenance duties of plant and other assigned duties as directed by Chief Operator.
  • Monitors and maintains the stormwater collection system.
  • Assists in operation of assigned treatment, mechanical and electrical equipment and other similarly related facility components and equipment.
  • Provide oversight for construction or repair projects.

Schedule:

  • Normal work schedule is 7:30 am to 4:00 pm Monday thru Friday. Must be able to perform on-call duties at least once a month for after-hours emergencies. Must be able to work overtime and after hours as required by manager.

What would you need to succeed?

  • High School Degree or Equivalent.
  • Valid New Jersey Driver's License required.
  • New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection W, C, and T Licenses is preferred or ability to obtain through NJDEP Operators license exam in a timely manner.
  • Mechanical and electrical experience preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in a Water and/or wastewater treatment facility operation and maintenance; or any equivalent combination of education and experience, preferred.
  • Proficiency with computers, including the ability to work with: SCADA, Microsoft Word, Excel, and other site-specific systems.
  • Ability to make sound decisions in process control and follow instructions, as well as follow safety procedures.
  • will be required to be on call, work an irregular work schedule and overtime hours.
  • Successful candidates will be required to complete a background check, pre-placement physical and drug screen before employment.
  • Be able to navigate uneven terrain, be able to smell, see and hear, be able to lift up to 40 lbs and work in all weather conditions indoors or out.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written are a must.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings.
