Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Biochemistry & Molecular Biology (Finance)



We are hiring immediately for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, McGovern Medical School, at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. This role will be working under Dr. Xiaotian Zhang, and will have a focus on performing NGS assays in the lab, work on MBD2's synergy with Menin in acute myeloid leukemia, and NPM1's cytoplasm condensate in AML development.

Position Summary:

A biomedical postdoc position provides an opportunity for early-career researchers to gain valuable experience, develop independent research skills, and contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge in their field of expertise.

This role will be working under Dr. Xiaotian Zhang, and will have a focus on performing NGS assays in the lab, work on MBD2's synergy with Menin in acute myeloid leukemia, and NPM1's cytoplasm condensate in AML development.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Performing NGS assays in the lab
  • Work on MBD2's synergy with Menin in acute myeloid leukemia.
  • The NPM1's cytoplasm condensate in AML development
  • Plans and conducts experiments, analyzes data, and prepares publications describing results.
  • Assists in training and mentoring of lab personnel, including graduate students and other trainees.
  • Reads and evaluates literature.
  • Possess interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate and communicate with individuals at all levels.
  • Have strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education:

  • Doctoral/Terminal Degree

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated expertise in NGS assay execution and analysis.
  • Strong background in Molecular and cellular biology techniques.
  • Proven track record or research productivity.
  • Experience with leukemia or hematopoiesis research models.
  • Familiarity with phase separation/biomolecular condensate studies.
  • Computational skills for NGS data analysis (R, Pyhton, or other bioinformatics pipelines).

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
