Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Responsible for creating and maintaining the Security Manual.
  • Prepare security procedures outlining and establishing measures and procedures for handling, storing, safekeeping, and destroying classified records and documents.
  • Responsible for granting branch personnel or visitors access to classified material or entry into restricted areas.
  • Revises and updates the security program based on the premises and information systems security requirements and industry trends with respect to fraud, burglaries, larcenies, and embezzlement.
  • Initiate investigations of suspicious customer/staff activity as appropriate to determine facts pertaining to the situation. Obtains evidence, and collects information required for prosecution.
  • Develop and implement training for Branch Security Officers and all employee in coordination with each branch/department.
  • Conduct training at least semi-annually, and train staff on loss-prevention procedures involving such potential incidents as fraud, robbery, hostage taking, kidnapping, and other security related situations.
  • Prepare an annual Security Officer report for the Board of Directors, summarizing the year's losses, recoveries, types of criminal activity experienced and other security incidents and risk exposures.
  • Provide reports to the Executive Leadership Team and to the Board of Directors as requested.
  • Work with department managers to ensure employees, customers, facilities, assets, records, and proprietary information are protected.
  • Oversee testing at branch locations for appropriate intrusion devices, alarms, and cameras.
  • Conduct surveys of all offices, branches, and departments to review and determine the need for additional security services and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Work and maintain communication with law enforcement and fraud notification services to mitigate bank fraud losses.
  • Responsible for the Business Continuity Plan, and directs the Business Continuity, Crisis Management, and Incident Response Committees.
  • Responsible for the updating, relevancy, efficiency and training of the Bank's Privacy, Red Flags, Business Continuity, and Incident Response Plans.
  • Responsible for the process for receiving and completing law enforcement requests, garnishments, and subpoenas in accordance with laws and regulations.
  • Responsible for the implementation and maintenance of the Vendor Management Policy.
  • Work with department managers and vendors to complete initial and ongoing vendor due diligence and track risks associated with vendor relationships. 
  • Perform all job duties to ensure compliance with all applicable acts, laws, and regulations including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control, and to ensure staff has the training and resources to perform duties to maintain compliance with such acts, laws and regulations.

 Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Work on special projects requested by the Chief Risk Officer.
  • Cross train with BSA staff to back up as needed. 

Supervisory Responsibilities

Carry out supervisory responsibilities is accordance with Bank policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, selection of staff and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding, and disciplining employees, and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications Required

(Required education may be satisfied by experience and/or working knowledge)

An Associate's degree or completion of a specialized course of study that relates to bank security, loss prevention, or crisis management.  High level working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point.  Five years' experience in retail banking operations, loss/safety prevention, investigation, crisis management and supervision/oversight.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Sitting for extended periods of time, requires close visual acuity and the ability to work and operate computer applications and equipment including copy machine, telephone, scanner or other basic business equipment.  Ability to lift items that weigh around 20 lbs. (e.g. boxes of copy paper/files, currency counters, etc.).  Ability to perform repetitive finger, hand and arm movements.    The job is within the normal office environment range.  Some travel is required for branch/department visitations and training. 

Qualifications Preferred

A Bachelor's degree and five years of experience in bank physical security, loss prevention and investigation techniques.  A high-level working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products with an emphasis on Excel and Word, and to include creating and formatting spreadsheets and preparing reports for presentation to management. Experience in navigating software solutions to include implementation and maintenance.  One of the following certifications: Certified Community Bank Security Officer (CCBSO); Financial Services Security Professional (CFSSP); or Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).
