Pre-Print Supervisor (Administrative)



Job Name: Pre-Print Supervisor
Reports to: Operations Manager
Classification: Full time / Exempt
Job Summary:
This role is responsible for overseeing the areas of platemaking, plate mounting, anilox care, as well as our ink mixing operations. This role is also responsible for overseeing the preparation of printing plates and custom ink formulations to ensure high-quality print production. They will also be responsible for managing staffing, doing team members reviews and day to day operations of the department.

Key Responsibilities:
Supervision and Leadership
o Lead and manage a team of pre-print technicians and ink mixers.
o Schedule and assign daily tasks to ensure timely and accurate production.
o Train new team members and provide ongoing coaching and performance feedback.
o Adhere to and promote all company safety policies and procedures. Employees must wear all personal protective equipment while working in the plant.
o Advise on business or operations matters.
o Confer with organizational members to improve on processes and company print quality; coordinate special events or programs.
o Performs other duties as required.
Plate Making and Mounting
o Oversee creation of printing plates using computer to plate systems/technology.
o Ensure plates meet quality standards and are prepared according to job specifications, i.e., fingerprinting/print testing.
o Oversee plate mounting, ensuring that plates are mounted using the correct materials and following all specifications and standards.
o Maintain and troubleshoot plate equipment.
o Contact vendor when service is needed.
Ink Mixing
o Supervise the mixing of inks to match color standards and customer requirements.
o Maintain colorcert and pantone live library.
o Maintain ink inventory (in coordination with maintenance) and ensure proper storage and labeling.
o Utilize spectrophotometers and other tools to ensure color accuracy.
Quality Control
o Conduct quality checks on plates and inks before they are released to press.
o Collaborate with press operators and prepress to resolve any pre-press issues.
o Maintain documentation for traceability and compliance.
Process Improvement
o Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance quality.
o Implement and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs)
o Stay current with industry trends and technologies.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Clear and effective communication
Organized and orderly in work processes
Flexo plate mounting
Flexo ink mixing.
Flexo plate making.

Education and Experience:
5 years of Flexographic printing experience; previous leadership a plus
Physical Requirements:
Typical office work environment; sitting, utilizing computers, presentations. Daily exposure to the plant environment; walking near equipment with moving mechanical parts.

The employee is regularly Stand; Walk; Talk; using hands to finger dexterity. Occasionally reaches, stoops, kneels, crouches.

Frequently lifts to 10 pounds; occasionally up to 45 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision; Distance vision; Peripheral vision; Depth perception; Ability to adjust focus.
