Operations Manager (Finance)



Position Description

Full responsibility and oversight in Field operations of a bulk terminal operation in Charleston SC. Position would be responsible for all aspects of terminal field Operations. This position will manage Operations Supervisors, Terminal Equipment Operators, Dry Bulk operators, as well as administrative support. The position will work closely with Terminal Manager, Maintenance Manager, Regional Project Engineering Manager, and EHS Manager in the safe operation of the terminal while continuously improving our SQE culture. Position will also work closely with the commercial and finance groups in meeting the objectives of the terminal.

Position Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Management of employees including hiring, discipline process, employee performance reviews, safety of employees and the management of safety programs.
Participation and assistance in negotiations with customers and service providers to meet the goals of the Terminal.
Growth and development of business internally and externally with the support of the commercial group.
Works with Regional Engineering group on inspection and repair of critical assets such as conveyors and dock rehabilitation.
Stay abreast of changes in working conditions or new technology that could increase the safety and efficiency of the operations.
Initiates and supports improvement plans for employees to succeed in their efforts to achieve the goals of the department.
Develop and implement company policies on worker safety, safety regulations, company policies/procedures and work rules.
Sets direction to improve handling methods, equipment performance, and quality of product handling.
• Monitor the operation of facility equipment and systems.
• Works closely with Maintenance in servicing and repair of all equipment necessary for the continuity of operations and the safety of terminal personnel.
• Train labor force to ensure consistent attainment of schedules at optimum productivity and cost levels
• Recommend improvement in equipment or methods.
• Review the operation of facility equipment and systems constantly to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate problems in a timely manner and identify opportunities for improvement
• Initiate and carry out projects that improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs
• Communicate directly with the operations department to coordinate maintenance and repair work
• Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION:
• Minimum: A degree preferred or minimum 10 years of Bulk Terminal Operations, Industrial Settings and Supervisory experience.
EXPERIENCE / SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE:
• Previous Operations Supervisory experience
• Must be able to understand the needs of the business unit for which development work is being performed
• Must possess understanding of dry bulk operations / equipment (conveyers)
• Intermediate to advanced proficiency level in Microsoft Office applications, including, but not limited to Outlook, Word, Excel and other Office Suite applications
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including, but not limited to, the ability to present ideas, proposals and results to business segment leaders
• Ability to organize and prioritize daily work, including tracking and managing small projects to see projects to completion while maintaining strict confidentiality as necessary
• Must be able to successfully and simultaneously manage multiple tasks, and work with minimal direct supervision.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license • Must have a TWIC card or obtain one
COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Proficient PC skills: MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and other Office Suite general products
• Must have exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including, but not limited to, the ability to present ideas, proposals and results to business segment leaders and to internal and external customers.
• Must be able to successfully and simultaneously manage multiple tasks and work with minimal direct supervision.
• Must possess general understanding of how corporate policies, procedures, practices and processes relate to the business segment and internal and external customers
• Experience in developing, implementing and successfully managing operating budgets
• Ability to identify and establish expectations in an employee / employer relationship (subordinate / manager)
• Solid leadership, communication, motivation and interpersonal skills and the ability to manage project(s) that will include working with individuals with varying disciplines, backgrounds and experience levels.
• Must be able to work with a team, take directions from supervisors, prioritize work schedules, focus attention on details and follow work rules.
• Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing, in English
• Must be able to obtain and maintain TWIC clearance

WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and also, but not limited to: heights in excess of 4 feet, moving mechanical parts, vibration, uneven terrain and high noise levels in the work environment
• Required to stand, walk and climb for extended periods of time
• Communicate with supervision and co-workers via radio and hand signals
• Must be able to wear FRC clothing if required
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
• Supervisor other employees as required who are involved in the projects and maintenance in regard to the dry bulk facility. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
• The ability to accept after-hour call outs and weekend duty
