Associate Technical Manager - Building and Grounds

Columbus, Ohio

The Building and Grounds Associate Technical Manager oversees a team of 10 to 15 associates, including maintenance technicians, predictive maintenance technicians, steam boiler technicians, and Technical Shift Leads.

This role requires strong people leadership, technical problem solving, and expertise in industrial utility distribution and site infrastructure. The Associate Technical Manager ensures adherence to global maintenance best practices, including continuous improvement and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM).

The role manages both internal and external resources and contributes to continuous improvement teams, the Factory Mars Operating System (FMOS), and site security, safety, and environmental programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with all functional areas to maintain and improve building and grounds assets, delivering metrics in Quality, Safety, TRS, productivity, and waste reduction.
  • Lead the development of a team-based culture by implementing TPM elements and increasing associate capabilities.
  • Manage maintenance costs within budget, providing accurate cost analyses to support the business.
  • Effectively engage and manage a team of multi-skilled associates to ensure global best practices are implemented and that each team member has the necessary skills and tools.
  • Develop and execute a robust skills enhancement plan for all maintenance associates.
  • Drive continuous improvement through technical analysis (data analysis, breakdown analysis, RCA, PDCA, etc.) to increase efficiency and reliability.
  • Support the MSE - PM Pillar by implementing proactive maintenance strategies that align with overall plant reliability goals.
  • Be actively involved in the development and execution of preventive and predictive maintenance programs in collaboration with the MSE - PM team to enhance equipment reliability and reduce unplanned downtime.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Undergraduate degree (preferably in Engineering).
  • 3- 5 years in a technical maintenance role within a manufacturing environment (food/pharma preferred).
  • 3+ years of supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Knowledge of Industrial Utility systems (steam, air, electric, water).
  • Working knowledge of Preventive Maintenance Programs and Systems.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and leadership skills; approachable and able to clearly convey information.
  • Proven ability to lead and participate in cross-functional teams at both site and corporate levels.
  • Knowledge of Programmable Logic Controls (primarily Modicon and Allen-Bradley).
  • Working knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, including compressed air, steam, ammonia refrigeration, HVAC, chillers, boilers, and building/grounds maintenance.
