Position Summary:
Provides competitive swimming instructions to swim team members in Age group, Senior, or Masters Programs. Organizes and conducts team workouts.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Performs assigned coaching responsibilities, which may include practices, recruiting, record-keeping, and schedulingRecruits prospective members and provides information about YMCA membership and swim team fee structureFollows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency proceduresCompletes incident and accident reports as necessaryAssists with overseeing conduct of swim team members at meets and other team functionsAttends swim meets and swim team functions as agreed upon with supervisorMaintains effective communication with participants and their parentsPerforms other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Minimum age 18Current First Aid, CPRPRO (BLS), AED and O2 certificationsSafety Training for Swim Coaches or equivalencyOne year or more of swim team experience preferredAbility to teach proper competitive swimming techniquesKnowledge of sound competitive swimming skills, and the ability to implement and teach these skills in a positive, healthy mannerKnowledge of basic exerciseMust be able to remain alertMust be able to sit or stand for extended periodsAdequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signalsAbility to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situationsExperience working with individuals, families and communities of diverse backgrounds and abilitiesFluency in second language desired
