Maintenance Tech II: Chesapeake (Engineering)



Weekly Pay! Up to $31.85 an hour increase based on experience

Purpose and Scope of Job:
Maintenance and Repair of manual and CNC/PLC-based machinery, assembly equipment, and mobile equipment in a high-volume manufacturing environment. Service mechanical, electrical, controls, civil, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.Installation, dismantlement, and relocation of machinery and equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, other drawings, or instructions.Execute Maintenance programs (Preventive Maintenance / TPM) for machine tools and assembly equipment.Repair and maintain facilities and grounds. Perform carpentry, painting, plumbing, cleaning, electrical, HVAC work to keep office and factory in good operating condition.

Essential Functions (other duties may be assigned):
Diagnosis & repair of:
CNC and manual machines (vertical & horizontal milling machines, lathes, multitasking/mill-turn combination machines, boring machines, grinders, drills, gear cutting machines, broaches, facing/centering machines, band saws, plasma cutting machines, press brakes, welding equipment, media blasting equipment).
Assembly equipment (Cranes, Electrical testing panels, Air leak testers, Forklifts, PLC controlled dispensing equipment, Carousals, Paint/drying booths, scales & conveyor systems, Hydraulic presses, Parts washers, Ovens/Bearing heaters, Packaging machines), and
Other installations (Compressors, Overhead doors, Waste Systems, etc.)
Perform and document preventive maintenance, lubrication, and equipment checks
Maintain a culture of 5-S in the workplace. Act as resource for 5-S activities in manufacturing & Assembly areas.
Champion a culture of continuous improvement in the assigned areas.
Use SMAs Maintenance work request queue (using online work order system). Ensure that work order status is updated periodically; ensure timely close outs, record on root cause detection and offer quality solutions.
Responsible for tracking performance (time/cost/quality) on all work orders.
Responsible for ensuring compliance of all safety and regulatory standards in SMAs manufacturing & Assembly environment.
Team lead for general upkeep of SMAs VA facility/building and surroundings.
Act as first responder for any emergencies in the plant (in the event of storms, burglar/fire alarms, emergency repair calls, etc.). Act as last man to leave for plant lockouts during emergency evacuations.
Provide direction, safety guidance, and manage work permits for outside vendors and contractors. Examples would be Painters, General Contractor Builders, Locksmith, Fire alarm & suppression, HVAC, burglar/fire monitoring, pest control, riggers, millwrights, iron workers, janitors, etc.
Maintain a culture of 5-S in the workplace. Act as resource for 5-S activities in manufacturing & Assembly areas.
Ensure own compliance to all of companies Safety, HR, Accounting, Purchasing and IT procedures.
Assist Preventive Maintenance, installation and repair work in regional facilities (IL, CA, TX, Verona, VA).
Participate in process improvement & standardization of all maintenance work in SMA.
Act as resource to other departments/regional facilities for any installation projects.
Train others on trade skills, specific equipment, procedures and other Maintenance department activities.
Facilitate set up for company events
Complete assigned craft training and assessments.
Complete OEM and Vendor provided training

Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Associates degree or equivalent experience preferred. At least 5 years of experience in maintaining, troubleshooting & repairing manual & CNC manufacturing equipment. Solid understanding of Mechanical, Electrical, & Control systems in manufacturing equipment.Knowledgeable of rigging, welding & fabrication, plumbing, & electric installations.Preferred: 3 years Craft experience i.e. welder, machinist, fabricator, plumber, electrician, pipefitter, rigger or millwrightPreferred: Industrial Mechanic or Millwright Trade Certification (VA preferred), Journeyman Electrician License (VA preferred)Preferred: Experience and/or training on CNC Machines, Robotics, or other Complex MachineryPreferred: Training in Root Cause Failure AnalysisBasic computer skills (understanding of MS excel, Word, PowerPoint; emails, searching for industrial solutions on the web).Good initiative and work ethics; ability to work in teams and in individual settings. A team-first attitude to work.Any additional essential skills and/or knowledge as shown in the HRIS Career & Education > Skills section for incumbents holding this job title.Able to work rotating shifts and weekends (non-production) downtime

Work Conditions & Physical Environment:
Duties are performed in an industrial environment. The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee must constantly lift, carry, move, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The employee may be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
