Commercial Analyst / Senior (Terminals Gulf Region) (Finance)



Position Description

Kinder Morgan is the largest independent terminal operator in North America, providing a strong, reliable network of 144 terminals serving our customers' storage, distribution, blending and logistical needs. Our terminals store and handle renewable fuels, petroleum products, chemicals vegetable oils and other products. We have a combined liquids storage capacity of approximately 151 million barrels and handle about 59 million tons of dry bulk materials annually.

Primary purpose:
The Commercial Analyst position is responsible for supporting the Gulf Region Terminals Commercial Group with regards to monitoring overall sales activity and providing support on new business opportunities.

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Generate financial models for new capital projects, working closely with the appropriate Commercial manager(s), Terminal managers, and the designated engineering group.
  • Own and maintain financial models throughout the entire project lifecycle, including project generation, management approval, and project execution.
  • Assist Commercial managers with monitoring performance at each designated facility as it relates to financial budgets and operational metrics.
  • Work closely with Terminal managers to understand variances on a monthly basis; relay reasons for the variances to the appropriate stakeholders.
  • Stay up to date with industry market news and distribute weekly summary reports.
  • Generate revenue reports and other reports as needed (such as top revenues by customer, etc.) and be able to track performance during the course of the year
  • Generate ad hoc daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports as needed (such as HSC export reports, project backlog, and other general KPIs and analytical reports).
  • Assist in project write-ups and upon final approval submit the write-up, contract document and financial model to corporate
  • Work with corporate to vet potential new customers for risk and credit worthiness.
  • Work closely with Terminal managers to implement KPI/Quality processes with select customers, consolidate data into workable worksheets/presentations and monitor performance and quality process.
  • Help identify areas where capital projects (expansion, new equipment, etc.) can be justified based on cost savings.
  • Participate in weekly commercial meetings and present status updates on relevant operational KPIs.
  • Put together presentations as may be needed for reports, QPMs, QBRs, or other required reviews.

Position Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree required. Business or Finance degree preferred.
  • MBA or work toward and MBA preferred.
Experience / specific knowledge:

  • Advanced knowledge of modeling capital projects using DCF principles
  • Working knowledge of corporate financial structure, specifically P&L, Balance Sheets, etc.
  • Strong excel skills including modeling, advanced PowerPoint skills and proficient in Microsoft Office and other business applications
  • 3-5 years' experience required; 5+ years of experience preferred.

  • Able to communicate effectively with individuals and groups during commercial calls, presentations, and other meetings utilizing written, verbal, and listening skills
  • Strong Analytical, financial modeling, and reporting skills required
  • Be self-motivated and possess a positive work ethic
  • Must possess strong organizational skills and provide attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with a team, take direction from supervision, focus attention on details, follow work rules and adhere to work schedules.
  • Be able to deal with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy and professionalism.
  • Learn to understand Kinder Morgan operations and relationship with customer service.
  • Able to maintain regular, dependable attendance.
  • Must be willing to work overtime, weekends and holidays as needed and required.
  • Minimal travel will be required specifically to regional terminals
Certifications, licenses, registrations:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers
  • Willingness to use personal and/or company vehicle in the course of employment
  • Must possess Safety training/certification as required by customers to work in their facilities and as required by Kinder Morgan at all locations
  • Must obtain and/or meet all requirements to enter foreign trade zones; such as background checks by both the U.S. Coast Guard and the Department of Homeland Security, i.e. obtain and maintain a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC); if applicable.
  • The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.

  • This position will be required to periodically visit Kinder Morgan facilities (which will require being outside, PPE, field SQE training)
