Commerce Editor, Tech (Creative Design)



Hearst Magazines' Central Commerce Team is looking for a commerce editor to pitch, write, and edit commerce content for our portfolio of brands, including Good Housekeeping, Cosmopolitan, Country Living, Esquire, Harper's BAZAAR, ELLE, and more.

The ideal person for this gig is an experienced writer and editor with a passion for all things tech, ranging from hunting for the best deals on popular devices to testing and writing reviews on newsworthy launches. You should have a pulse on what's fresh and exciting in this space and be well-versed in using data and reporting tools to inform editorial ideas.

In this role, you'll have the opportunity to work with a wide variety of brands and create content for our various distribution channels. You should be skilled at making data-driven decisions and seeking out new opportunities based on content trends. This position will report to the Deputy Managing Editor.

Responsibilities:

  • Write, update, or edit 1-3 shopping-focused stories daily across brands and topics, with an emphasis on tech.
  • Stay on top of the latest deals and work with our preferred retailers to plan for sale events and upcoming launches.
  • Track performance of content to inform and execute on new areas of opportunity to increase affiliate commerce revenue.
  • Work closely with Hearst's commerce team to maintain best practices in order to meet ambitious revenue goals.

Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience as a writer, with a minimum of 1 at a digital-first outlet — a background in commerce and tech is a plus.
  • Sharp writing and self-editing skills and a talent for turning around clean, accurate copy that maintains the brands' taste levels and sensibilities.
  • Strong angling and packaging skills and an understanding of SEO and social best practices.
  • Ability to understand analytics and translate them into editorial action — familiarity with Google Analytics, Looker, Skimlinks, or similar reporting tools is a plus.
  • Comfortable juggling multiple projects simultaneously and working independently.
  • Well-versed in building strong relationships and explaining complex topics in simple terms.
  • Available to work major shopping holidays.

The base salary for this role is $64,000-$76,000. The actual base pay offered is dependent upon many factors, such as: transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.

This position is based in the NYC office a minimum of 3 days a week. No remote option.
