Business Risk Manager (Finance)

The Business Risk Manager is responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks that could potentially affect the organization's ability to achieve its objectives. This role involves developing and implementing strategies to manage financial, operational, regulatory, and reputational risks. The Business Risk Manager collaborates with various departments across Texas and at the group level and has direct management responsibility over the Claims Team and Compliance Team. This position plays a crucial role in safeguarding the organization's assets and reputation by proactively identifying and managing risks. It requires a combination of analytical skills, industry knowledge, and effective communication to ensure that risk management practices are seamlessly integrated within the organization's operations.

Key Responsibilities
Risk Identification and Assessment

  • Conduct risk assessments to identify potential threats to the organization's assets, earnings, and overall success.
  • Analyze data and trends to forecast risks and establish risk profiles for various business units.
  • Evaluate the impact of external factors such as market trends, economic shifts, and regulatory changes on the organization.
Risk Mitigation and Management
  • Develop and implement risk management strategies and policies to minimize the impact of identified risks.
  • Collaborate with department heads and stakeholders to integrate risk management practices into daily operations.
  • Act as liaison with the insurance carrier.
  • Coordinate workers' compensation claims with the Region Claims team and the carrier.
  • Liaise with the legal team on pending and active litigations.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of risk management strategies and adjust as necessary.
  • Prepare and present risk reports to senior management.
Compliance and Regulatory Management
  • Ensure the organization's adherence to relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Stay updated on regulatory changes and advise on necessary adjustments to risk management strategies.
  • Coordinate with legal and compliance teams to manage regulatory risk and avoid penalties.
Training and Awareness
  • Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on risk management practices and policies.
  • Promote a risk-aware culture within the organization by raising awareness about potential risks and their impact.
  • Create communication materials to convey risk management strategies and updates to employees.
  • Visiting sites to provide potential improvements to processes and complete operational risk assessments.
Qualifications
Educational Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Risk Manager (CRM), Associate Risk Manager (ARM), Certified Workers Compensation Professional (CWCP) or Certified Risk Professional (CRP) are advantageous.
Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in risk management, compliance, or a related field.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing effective risk management strategies.
Skills and Competencies
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and assess risks accurately.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with various stakeholders and present risk reports.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and best practices in risk management.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in risk management software and tools.
Work Environment

The Business Risk Manager reports to the Texas Region President. This role is hybrid and requires travel to various businesses across Texas, up to 25%. The Business Risk Manager must possess a high level of integrity, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to mana ging risks.
