Role description:

Arcadis is seeking an entry-level Environmental Scientist or Geologist to join our team in Baton Rouge, LA or New Orleans, LA. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work alongside our Professional Geoscientists, Environmental Scientists, and Project Managers who will mentor you throughout your professional development. This position offers the chance to acquire exceptional field skills under the guidance of our highly experienced field personnel and contribute to delivering top-quality outcomes.

While this position requires both field and office work, the candidate should expect to spend up to 90% of their time in the field and traveling 50-75% of the time. Field assignments may often occur in industrial settings such as chemical manufacturing and petroleum refining facilities.

This position will require a person who is self-motivated and dedicated to contributing to our success. Above the educational preferences, attention to detail, a strong work ethic, ability to work collaboratively, excellent communication skills, dependability, and willingness to take initiative are crucial characteristics. Being able to take direction while thinking critically and creatively to guide projects to completion is also vital for success and professional growth.

Role accountabilities:

In this role, your responsibilities will involve actively participating in field activities as part of a team, with the expectation to eventually lead field teams and execute field assignments independently. You will be responsible for environmental multimedia sampling in compliance with both State and Federal standards. Field activities also include supporting drilling operations, which includes the installation of monitoring wells, providing lithologic descriptions, and overseeing drilling subcontractors.

Office-based responsibilities may include writing and preparing technical reports, work plans, letters, and memoranda. You may provide support in preparing subcontracts and coordinating with subcontractors. You will be expected to actively participate in team meetings, maintain a current workload forecast, and successfully manage project documentation.

Your core duties will include but will not be limited to:

  • Strict adherence to health and safety procedures; able to comply and steward Arcadis and client H&S requirements
  • Perform fieldwork which may include drilling oversight for soil sampling and/or groundwater well installation, groundwater sampling, excavation oversight, operation and maintenance of remediation systems, and incident response
  • Coordinate work schedules with colleagues, client personnel, and subcontractors to manage competing client needs with support from project teams
  • Exhibit independent thinking and problem-solving skills and able to work successfully with minimal daily supervision
  • Interface with client site personnel to positively represent Arcadis and maintain a positive reputation for our teams
  • Data management (compilation, manipulation, and evaluation of data)

Candidates must have a good driving record and be willing to work outside in all weather conditions and for extended periods. Field work may be performed at project sites with environmental media (e.g., soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, etc.) that has been impacted with hazardous substances and/or hazardous wastes. Candidates must also be able to meet the physical demands associated with performing fieldwork, including lifting heavy equipment, working in a standing position for extended periods of time, etc and have the ability to routinely pass background checks and drug screenings (including hair testing) in accordance with client site-specific requirements. For this role, we prefer local candidates and candidate's must have a valid driver's license.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's of Science in Geology, Environmental Science, or closely related field (i.e., ecology, physical science)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Current OSHA HAZWOPER 40 HR / 8 HR training
  • Previous industry, consulting, or regulatory internship experience
  • Environmental sampling experience

We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $49,390 - $79,023. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
