Patient Service Representative (Healthcare)



Position Summary

Performs a wide variety of duties related to reception, registration, and check in of patients. Also responsible for various administrative functions for physicians and other providers in support of operational efficiency in reception and clinical areas.

Schedule:

Tuesday and Thursday: 8am-4:30pm

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Greets all incoming patients, verifies appointment and insurance information. Obtains all other necessary paperwork, enters data into practice management system. Directs patients to waiting areas.
  • Maintains patient flow and monitors waiting area conditions. Communicates with patients as necessary, particularly during times of lengthy delays.
  • Performs registration procedures for new patients. Obtains all necessary demographic, insurance and payment information. May explain insurance eligibility criteria and coverage to patient. Reviews copayment amounts. May communicate with insurance carriers to obtain or verify information.
  • Generates reports and other documentation for patient charts.
  • Check out duties - assists physicians and other providers in efficient flow of patients in the exam rooms and treatment areas.
  • Processes referrals and other paperwork for providers, collects copayments and patient financial responsibilities and schedules follow up appointments.
  • Retrieves and organizes patient charts for following day's appointments according to specifications of each physician. Obtains missing reports and documentation for charts as necessary.
  • Answers telephones and directs the caller to the appropriate associate. Will transfer a caller to an associates voice mailbox when the associate is unavailable.
  • Assists with other related clerical duties such as photocopying, faxing, and filing.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • 1+ years' experience working in reception/registration in either a hospital or ambulatory setting preferred.
  • 2+ years' experience in customer service.
  • Experience with EMR system preferred; High school diploma/GED required.

Physical Demands

  • This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required.
  • This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.

The pay range for this position is determined based on several factors, including the candidate's years of experience, qualifications, training, licenses, designations, and the overall market conditions.
