Fitness Engagement Coordinator (Project Management)



Under the guidance of the Healthy Living Director, the Fitness Engagement Coordinator proactively engages with members and oversees the wellness center, programs and services. The Fitness Engagement Coordinator is directly responsible for welcoming members, onboarding, engagement and getting members connected in wellness immediately upon joining. A plan to follow members through their first 90 days, 6 months, and one year of wellness will be implemented and tracked. The coordinator provides information of programs, activities, and health/fitness education via member visits, one on one appointments, phone and email communications. The coordinator introduces members and helps establish a relationship between the members and other wellness department staff. The coordinator will guide members along a pathway into other dimensions of wellness that encourage member engagement, retention and goal achievement. The coordinator oversees the wellness center area for safety, and is responsible for cleaning, maintaining, and reporting any unsafe or broken equipment to the responsible parties. The Healthy Living Coordinator may also receive opportunities for direct leadership in program areas.

Hours will vary based on branch hours/activity and member appointments. The desired candidate will create a regular 40-hour work week schedule to ensure coverage at times of high traffic to create the greatest engagement with members.

QUALIFICATIONS:

At least 18 years of age
A degree in Exercise Science or related field of study is preferred.
Must have knowledge of sound nutrition, exercise physiology, anatomy and kinesiology.
Previous experience working in the health & fitness industry preferred
Must stay up-to-date on current health and exercise trends.
Must have experience with Microsoft Office
Demonstrate strong communication skills, initiative, creativity, flexibility, and be able to operate and promote an environment that supports the YMCA's mission and core values. This individual must be able to provide support, motivation, and encouragement to all members ensuring a positive and engaging YMCA experience.
CPR / AED and First Aid Certification within 30 days of hire


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Warmly and enthusiastically greet members with a smile, hello and eye contact and ensure all staff do the same.
Engage in active listening and display motivational interview techniques with members in order to build relationships, understand individual's goals and interests, and assist in the achievement of those goals.
Responsible for personally getting members oriented and engaged in wellness and connected to other programs/services, staff or other members to ensure their progress and that they stay connected and involved at the Y.
Work with Healthy Living Director in developing, scheduling, and promoting programs and/or events for members, focusing on health seekers and active older adults. Also to include community events, health fairs, and corporate wellness.
Keep all work areas including wellness center, group exercise studios, and all other related areas clean, organized and safe for members.
Stay familiar with YMCA's Emergency Procedures and practice them regularly with all staff.
Monitor the wellness center to make sure all rules are being enforced.
Be aware of member's needs and try to approach them before they approach you.
Make helpful suggestions as you identify members that may be using unsafe or ineffective techniques through exercise.
Understand, abide by, and enforce YMCA policies and procedures.
Arrive for shift well-groomed and in proper uniform.
All other duties as assigned by the Healthy Living Director.
