Truck Driver - Delivery (Finance)



The County of Riverside Fire Service Center is seeking applicants for a Truck Driver-Delivery position for the Perris office. Under general supervision, the incumbent will drive loads and unload vehicles in the delivery of County property to specified facilities; and do other work as required. This position is assigned to loading, unloading, routing, and driving a truck (e.g. 40' box truck, pick-up truck, and or a sprinter van) in the process of making deliveries. The most competitive applicants will possess experience with Microsoft applications to include outlook, excel, power point and data entry.

The Truck Driver-Delivery classification is assigned the loading, unloading, routing, and driving of a truck in the process of making deliveries. The Truck Driver-Delivery differs from Equipment Operator I in that the former does not drive and operate heavy construction equipment such as dump trucks, water trucks and tractors. The Truck Driver-Delivery is further distinguished from the Stock Clerk in that the latter's primary responsibility is the receiving and storing of goods and materials.

The Riverside County Fire Department is one of California's largest integrated, cooperative, regional fire protection organizations. The Department, a unique partnership between State of California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) and the County of Riverside, serves 19 partner agencies and 1 community service district. The Department has five core values: Leadership, Competence, Integrity, Safety, and Customer Service.• Drive vehicles such as trucks, pick-ups and vans to make deliveries between a variety of County facilities and other agencies including jails, camps, warehouses, offices, and recreation areas.

• Load and unload vehicles using a manual or electric pallet jack or forklift.

• Prepare routing plan for maximum efficiency; prepare receipts for goods picked-up at other County facilities.

• Collect and maintain control of signed receipts for goods delivered; pick up and deliver messenger materials.

• Inspect trucks for safety requirements such as fire extinguisher, tire pressure, lights, brakes, gas, oil, and water levels.

• Perform minor roadside repairs (e.g., changing tires); install light bulbs and fuses; keep trucks and equipment clean.Experience: One year in the operation of delivery vehicles preferably involving determining routes from mailing addresses.

Knowledge of: The operation and minor maintenance of delivery trucks and vans; safe, correct lifting methods.

Ability to: Read sufficiently well to understand addresses and determine, direct or alternate routes from maps; keep records of receipt for all items delivered; make basic mathematical computations; follow oral and written directions; lift and move heavy packages and supplies.

Other Requirements

License/Certificate: Possession of a valid California Driver's License. Desired candidates will possess either a class A or class B License.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to perform the following activities on a daily basis: drive a County vehicle, squat, crawl, climb ladders, kneel, reach above shoulder level, handle objects (manual dexterity), pushing, pulling, fine finger movement, sit/stand/walk for long durations, lift up to 75lbs.

For those positions designated by the Department of Transportation (DOT) as safety-sensitive, applicants are required to complete a (DOT) mandated alcohol and drug screening records check. Reference checks from former DOT regulated employers are also required. (A positive test or refusal to test during the past two (2) years will disqualify an applicant from consideration for County employment). Applicants for safety-sensitive positions must submit an H-6 Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) driving history before hire.
